POSITION SUMMARY:

This contract position is responsible for the overall care and maintenance of Sunny Cove Camp.  This includes but not limited to grass cutting, completing minor repairs, daily chlorine samples of drinking water, cleaning main hall and out-buildings, removing garbage and other tasks as required.  This position requires the candidate live at the camp for the period from May to September.

DIRECTION RECEIVED:

The incumbent follows established maintenance routines and is directed by operating policies established by the Manager of Community Services.  Must have the ability to work independently and successfully and complete tasks in a timely manner.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Provides care-taking services for the day to day cleaning and maintenance of Sunny Cove Camp including grass cutting, cleaning halls, cleaning sleeping cabins, and cleaning shower area and washrooms as required
  • Provides assistance to organizations renting the camp as required and directed.
  • Contacts municipal trades to complete necessary repairs to facilities if the repairs are beyond individual’s capabilities
  • Keeps Manager of Community Services informed on current maintenance and renter issues
  • Refers all rental inquires to the Memorial Sports Centre
  • Enforces camp rules and regulations 
  • Incumbent will abide by Ontario Health & Safety Legislation and follow Corporate Health & Safety Policies
  • Performs additional duties as identified by the Manager of Community Services.

EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 Diploma (or General Education Diploma–G.E.D.).
  • Preference will be given to individuals with previous cleaning and light maintenance experience
  • Ability to organize and complete work assignments with a minimum of supervision.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with superior interpersonal and communication skills.

EFFORT:

Daily routine involves continuous standing and walking, reaching, stooping, and twisting to perform cleaning tasks.  Operates equipment and tools requiring whole body control and course movements (e.g. lawn mower, trimmer).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a live-in position where housing is provided.  Hours are flexible dependant of need and renters in the camp.  Work is normally outside in a resident camp environment.
